Brief Description:

During this interactive workshop, presenters will introduce a core framework for government evaluation systems and share examples of improving evaluation quality to achieve sustainable development goals. Participants will learn core concepts and norms in public sector evaluation, including the OECD’s legal recommendations on Public Policy Evaluation, criteria, and quality standards.

The session draws on forty years of OECD experience in diverse contexts. Participants will gain a solid understanding of OECD evaluation norms and new ideas for implementing them in their own contexts. The workshop will highlight an equity focus on OECD standards, with examples of disability rights inclusion and youth involvement.

The session will feature real-life examples from various governments, showing how these concepts can be adapted to fit different national contexts and address public policies on climate crisis and poverty. Key topics include:

  1. Communicating with the public (transparency, credibility, and political debates).
  2. Working with legislatures to inform decision-making.
  3. Programming evaluations to cover policies and programs robustly.
  4. Ensuring evaluations are credible and relevant to users.
