Mr. Mirwais Baheej is a Government Official, a policy analyst, and a public health professional. He has 12 years of extensive experience at management and policy levels in the field of policy analysis, development planning, project management, monitoring and evaluation, research and data analysis, and public health at the Government of Afghanistan. He is currently serving as General Director of Policy and Result Based Monitoring at Ministry of Economy of Afghanistan. His department is leading the development planning process at national and sub-national levels. Monitoring and evaluation of all development activities (at national and provincial levels) is another responsibilities carried out by his department through national and provincial Directorates of Economy. Further, the coordination, planning, M&E and reporting of SDGs in Afghanistan is under his portfolio. In 2011, he was awarded with Australian Development Scholarship and completed his masters degree in Governance and Public Policy at the University of Queensland, Australia. He is a member of the National Budget Committee of Afghanistan. He is also the founding member of the Australia-Afghanistan Alumni Association (AAAA), and an Executive Board Member of the Afghanistan National Public Health Association (ANPHA) a non-governmental non-for-profit entity of interested volunteer public health professionals. As the country’s National Focal Point for SDGs, he performs the Secretariat role for the Afghanistan SDGs Executive Committee, which is the high level political forum on SDGs in Afghanistan. His areas of interest include Policy development and analysis, leadership and organizational development, economic analysis and public policy, monitoring and economic evaluation, leadership in post conflict and fragile settings, development and economic growth.
