Ms Mashavu Khamis Omar is a Commissioner for Monitoring and Evaluation at the Zanzibar Planning Commission in Zanzibar, Tanzania. She works in the Institution from September 2015 to date. She is responsible to monitor and evaluate the Zanzibar National Streategies along with the Regional and international Agendas. These include Zanzibar Annual Development Plans, Mid-Term Strategy that is the Zanzibar Strategy for Growth and Poverty Reduction III, and the long term strategy that is the Zanzibar Development Vision 2020. Ms Mashavu is responsible for the monitoring and evaluation of other regional agenda, the African Agenda 2060 and Agenda 2030 the Sustainable Development in Zanzibar, Tanzania. She led the team that prepare the report for the Voluntary National Review for the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals for Zanzibar which was part of the United Republic of Tanzania Report that was presented to the UN High Level Political Forum held in New York in July, 2019. Currently, apart from other responsibilities, She is leading the Technical Team for the Evaluation of the Zanzibar Development Vision 2020. Before joining the Zanzibar Planning Commission, She worked with the Office of the Chief Government Statistician (OCGS) in Zanzibar for 20 years with different posts. The office is responsible to collect, analyse and disseminate official statistics in Zanzibar. The last post She held before transfered to the Zanzibar Planning Commission was the Director for Statistical and Technical Services, with key role to provide technical services to the office including ICT services. In addition to that, She was the Coordinator for the Zanzibar Statistical Project (ZANSTAT) for four years within the OCGS. The project was co-financed between the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar and the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF).
