Dr. Sukai Prom-Jackson is a Gambian National elected by the General Assembly to the Joint Inspection Unit of the UN System (JIU) (2013-2022). The JIU is the external, independent, and system- wide body of the United Nations system conducting inspections, evaluations, and investigations of the United Nations system organizations. It supports legislative and governing bodies in their policy making and oversight responsibility. It supports organizations seeking to enhance their organizational effectiveness and to make a contribution to development results. Strategical the unit is focused on the inspection and evaluation of; internal functions for accountability, oversight, ethics and integrity, and administration of justice; strategic planning, management, and administration; coherence in implementing internationally agreed goals, objectives, and conventions; and governance arrangements.
At the JIU, she has assumed several leadership roles including: Serving as the current Chair of the JIU; Leading the General Assembly Policy on independent system-wide evaluation of operational activities for development; Leading 7 thematic system-wide reviews and evaluations; and co leading or partnering in 3 reviews and evaluations. Her other activities include support to evaluation functions of the UN system, and contribution to external working groups on evaluation and results – notably the Center for Learning and Evaluation (CLEAR-AA), and the OECD Results Group.
Prior to the JIU, she had over 25 years of senior level professional experience and leadership in the management and conduct of scientific research and evaluation, in policy formulation and strategic planning, in program and project development, and in organizational and individual learning. She has worked in various capacities for the UNDP independent evaluation office (8 years), The World Bank (15 years), USA federal and state government offices of research and evaluation, universities, research centers and management consulting firms (6 years), and The Gambia government (4 years). Her direct work experience has covered over 80 countries in all regions. She is a graduate of Howard University Washington DC on policy research, measurement, evaluation and congintive/behavioural sciences.
